Japan's FamilyMart to open 4,500 stores in China by 2015
Japanese convenience store china FamilyMart announced plans to operate 4,500 outlets in China by 2015, adding to its current number of over 1,000 outlets. A FamilyMart official said, despite the current anti-Japan protests, the company remains committed to planned expansion in China and even announced a goal of 8,000 Chinese outlets by 2020. FamilyMart operates in China in collaboration with Ting Hsin Group, a major Chinese food company.
Kellogg forms JV in mainland China
Kellogg, the maker of PopTarts, Frosted Flakes, and Eggo waffles announced a JV to sell cereals and snacks in mainland China. Kellogg will tap Yihai Kerry Investments subsidiary Wilmar International's domestic infrastructure and expertise. Wilmar will contribute infrastructure, supply-china scale, and a sales and distribution network to the 50-50 JV.
